1. CHC Health Reform Webinar on Consumer Education – All CHJ members and supporters are welcomed and encouraged to participate in the latest installment of CHC’s yearlong webinar series dedicated to health reform implementation in California. Getting Ready for Health Reform: Consumer Education and Engagement will explore steps being taken to educate consumers about ACA implementation in CA, and engage them in debate on elements currently taking place. 2. Important Stakeholder Meetings: Medi-Cal Physician Visit Limits and Medicaid Eligibility Requirements – Take part in two important stakeholder meetings on proposed changes to Medicaid. 3. Policy Conference: The Challenge of Achieving the America’s Dream in California – Join Assembly member Holly Mitchell for an important conference of the Legislative Black Caucus on Friday, September 30^th, 2011 through Saturday, October 1^st, 2011 at the LAX Westin Hotel.

AIA|LA design symposium: DESIGNING HEALTHIER LIFESTYLES – The American Institute of Architects invites you to a symposium to discuss innovative strategies, resources, tools and policies that can help create healthier communities. 5. Grand Opening: The New MLK Center for Public Health – Join 2^nd District Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas in a celebration of transformation for the new public health center facility joining the MLK health campus in South LA. Strving for Health Equity in the Era of Health Reform – Join the UCLA Center for Health Policy Research for a program that delves into the challenges of implementing health reform in California most vulnerable communities. 7. 2^nd District Initiative to Lower STI Rates: On Monday, September 19^th, 2^nd District Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas held a press conference announcing partnerships and plan to lower the rates of STI’s/STD’s in the area. Calarts Community Arts Partnership (CAP) The city of Los Angeles department of cultural affairs, and Sony pictures entertainment collaborate to present the sony pictures media arts program (SPMAP)

If you like to dram or want to learn how to make your own cartoons and videos, then this FREE animation and media arts program is for you!

This FREE animation program is for kids ages 10-14. They'll teach you how to write, animate, direct and edit you own animated short film, They'll show you special techniques to make your drawings and favorite objects come alive. For a grand finale, your film will be shown on the big screen at an event for everyone on the class and your family!

Stroller and Car Seat Accessories Recall

Time to check your travel systems:

Phil&teds is voluntarily recalling over 9,000 Explorer and Hammerhead Strollers in the US and Canada due to brake failure, posing risk of injury. The recall includes “phil&teds model EX explorer” and “phil&teds model HH hammerhead” (check the sticker on the stroller’s real axle bar) sold from August 2010 through June 2011. The serial numbers run consecutively with the month and year, followed by the unit number. Affected serial numbers: 0610/0001 to 0111/4788.
Parents should stop using the products immediately and contact phil&teds to have the faulty parts replaced. For additional information, call the company toll-free at (855) 652-9019 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. MT Monday through Friday, or visit www.philandteds.com.

First Black Family Celebration

The sun was shining on another beautiful day for another beautiful event that brought together men, women and children of all ages. At Van Ness Park, the First Black Family Celebration was underway, and the first thing you notice once you enter the park are the smiling faces of volunteers and patrons. The Los Angeles Galaxy and the Kings were represented and gave the children a chance to show off their athletic skills at both stations. Children were able to shoot a puck and kick a soccer ball. There was even a raffle for tickets to a Los Angeles Galaxy Soccer game at the Home Depot Center in Carson, California, and plenty of other give-aways at both stations. Inside the gymnasium there was a basketball game set up for the toddlers that were in attendance as well.
